Ive been home for a little over a month now. Yesterday got to unload my truck in Bozeman Mt - 1 degree F thank goodness for my Carhart Jacket. I am often thinking where our next Vacation will be, tonight for some reason I was thinking of the Solomon Islands, I love San Pedro Belize and the Snorkeling is Fabulous! San Pedro Is very first world now days with lots of westerners moving there. Lately I sort of have been wanting to feel like Robinson Crusoe so I googled " Solomon Islands" not because it has anything to do with Robinson Crusoe but because I have heard so little about them, and I figured they might be the next best thing! I found this Article on best snorkeling Islands at "Islands.com" and it mentions a place in the Solomon Islands! Looks intriguing to say the least, and it has a few other Ideas for snorkel spots, some which I have already been to Like Big Island Hawaii. Hey Burnie, I can agree that the Solomons are great for diving. My husband and I were there in the Peace Corps and the water is fantastic - the fish out of this world colorful and the people frieldly and welcoming. The biggest problem is the cost to get there as we found it very expensive and a LONG trip. We were in the Western Province and Jim found a Japanese plane that went down during WWII. We also found a lot of stuff from the war in the jungle. Be sure and read up on current events before you go - they seem to be having little wars between the islands from time to time. I have a friend that stayed there and she keeps us updated and sometimes the youth can be pretty wild. Next we want to go to Belize so thanks for the info. 5/13/2011 12:41:22 pm
Joan, Thx for the heads up on on Solomons. Most likely I will end up going somewhere closer where I can get more bang for the buck, like Central America, or even Mexico, I really miss Baja and the Sea of Cortez! also its been over 20 years since I was there need to go bake my Soul in the Dessert. First time I got to go on an international snorkel/dive trip was to Belize in 1981. I was fifteen and we drove down in a Datsun Pickup full of dive gear, and a portable compressor, back then it was hard to find a place to fill your scuba tanks, years later I decided it was time to take a break from my Job and see Belize through a greybeards eyes, to say that San Pedro Belize has changed is an understatement, they even have a hyperbaric Facility.
