According to the BBC Eric Stroud a Chemist from the USA has been having success using rare earth coated magnets as a shark repellent and is testing the magnetic alloy on fishing hooks with some success.   According to the BBC some tests using these hooks are showing a sixty to seventy percent drop in the (accidental) shark catch by comercial fishermen.  heres a link to the article.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-17792624

You may have heard about the young emperor penguin that decided to visit New Zealand.  Some locals found him passed out on the beach thousands of miles from his home with a hangover.  So they took him to a veterinarian who helped Happy Feet get rid of the six pounds of sand the little guy ate thinking it was snow.  Then after giving him some Rest and Relaxation (and fish too.)  The Nice New Zealander's took him south part way on an expense paid trip so he could swim home to  Antartica!   Heres a link so you can track his progress.  Go Happy Feet!    http://www.ourfarsouth.org/Track-Happy-Feet.aspx

 article from the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-13796479 one more reason to take up snorkeling, apreciate our Oceans while they are still vibrant.  Keep in mind that it is our entire planet that is effected by Us.  The more people that gain an apreciation for the hydrosphere the better chance that humanity will do more to leave a smaller footprint on Planet Water.

     I found this article on Shark Finning in an LA Newspaper. http://www.latimes.com/health/la-me-shark-fin-20110629,0,258416.story According to the Article Shark Fin Soup is a traditional food in China and on the menu of some Chinese Restaurants in California (and elsewhere).  The problem with Shark Finning is fisherman catch the sharks cut off the Fins and then throw the Shark (still alive in many cases) back in the ocean to die.  Pretty wasteful to say the least.

     I think as the ultimate top predator on Planet Earth We need to start self regulating when it comes to our environment in general.  As go the Sharks, Tuna, you name it,   so goes Humanity eventually.  Mother Earth has a way of taking care of her own.  

      Im not saying "don't hunt anything," Im just saying, be aware that everything is connected, once a species is gone its gone forever.  Lets respect our Mother.  B

    Ok. this little caribbean Island is for sale has a dock and fresh water, and is 600 square meters with deep water channel. It is somewhere near Bocas del Toro Panama.

I think one of these babies would be good to pack in the luggage just in case you are in a dicy situation where a spear would come in handy.  The Spirit Knife is even designed to screw onto a broom or mop handle (Every country I have ever been to sells Mop handles pretty Cheap!  I think it would work great in a pinch as a self defense spear for either Snorkeling or taking a hike through the jungle.  What the hell, sometimes a spear is a good thing to have! and when you leave you can unscrew the blade and throw it in your luggage for the next adventure!   B
